US consumer spending rose in August at the fastest pace in over a year, helping to power the economy through persistent inflation. Inflation-adjusted personal spending climbed 0.6% in August from a month earlier, according to Bureau of Economic Analysis data released on Wednesday. That was the biggest monthly jump since March 2025. Eric Winograd, Chief Economist at AllianceBernstein, reacts to the PCE data. (Source: Bloomberg)
Glass House Analysis
Inflation is the silent tax that erodes purchasing power, hitting hardest those who can least afford it. By tracking these connections, we can better understand how the economy truly works—not as an abstract machine, but as a human system shaped by and shaping the lives of millions.
